    About Scheme

    Poshan Abhiyaan was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 8th March, 2018 in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. The focus of Abhiyaan is to lay emphasis on nutritional status of adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers and children from 0-6 years age. The programme, through use of technology, convergence and community involvement with a targeted approach strives to reduce the level of stunning, under-nutrition, Anemia and low birth weight in children, as also focus on adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers, thus holistically addressing malnutrition.
    The Abhiyaan is being implemented in all districts of Haryana. Nuh and Panipat districts were selected for Phase-I. For Phase-II, 10 districts, namely Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Bhiwani, Yamuna Nagar, Gurugram, Palwal, Rohtak, Sirsa and Sonipat were selected. Remaining districts are covered in the Phase III.

    Objectives

    • Prevent and reduce Stunting in children (0- 6 years)
    • Prevent and reduce under-nutrition (underweight prevalence) in children (0-6 years)
    • Reduce the prevalence of anemia among young Children(6-59 months)
    • Reduce the prevalence of anemia among Women and Adolescent Girls in the age group of 15-49 years
    • Reduce Low Birth Weight (LBW)

    Components

    1. Growth Monitoring Devices: 25,962 Growth Monitoring Devices (Infantometer, Stadiometer, Mother and Child weighing scale, Infant-weighing scale) @ Rs. 8,500/- per set have been supplied in all AWCs.
    2. Smartphones: 28,484 smartphones with power banks @ Rs. 9,900/- each have been purchased for all Anganwadi workers and supervisors and delivered to all districts.
    3. Convergence: The Abhiyaan ensures convergence of all nutrition-related schemes of MWCD for the target population. It will ensure the convergence of various programmes by setting achievable targets through state, district, and block-level meetings.
    4. Community Behavior Activities:
      • Community-Based Event (CBE): Celebrated on the 8th and 22nd of every month in all Anganwadis. Themes include Annaprasan Diwas, Suposan Diwas (specifically focused on orienting husbands), Celebrating the coming of age — getting ready for preschool at AWC, and messages related to public health to improve nutrition and reduce illness.
      • Village Health Sanitation Nutrition Day (VHSND): Conducted regularly on the 15th of each month, with an immunization drive carried out in convergence with the Health department.
      • Poshan Pakhwada and Poshan Maah: Celebrations held to promote nutritional awareness.
    5. Poshan Pakhwada and Poshan Maah Activities:
      1. Poshan Pakhwada is celebrated in the month of March.
      2. Poshan Maah is celebrated in the month of September.
      3. Activities include Anaemia camps, Plantation Drive, Poshan walk/rallies, cycle rally, Yoga sessions, Gram Sabha meetings, Poshan Baithak, workshops/webinars, various competitions, etc., conducted in coordination with line departments.
    6. Poshan Tracker: A tool to ensure real-time monitoring of supplementary nutrition provisioning for improving the nutritional status of beneficiaries, providing real-time information for prompt supervision and management of services.
    7. Facial Recognition System: This component has been integrated into the Poshan Tracker application to streamline the Take Home Ration distribution process. The beneficiary’s picture is taken and uploaded into the app, and an OTP is sent to the beneficiary during the distribution of ration. After entering the OTP in the app, the Take Home Ration is given to the beneficiary.

    Mukhya Mantri Dudh Uphaar Yojana
    • 200 ml of fortified skimmed milk Fortified with Vitamin-A and D-3 for six days in a week is being supplied to AWCs
    • Budget Provision: Rs. 150 Cr. Under scheme.
    Launch Of Millet Based Recipe Book
    • WCD Department has prepared millet-based recipe book for creating awareness on use of millet.
    • AWWs are organising the cooking demonstration in field using this recipe book.
    Partnership With Un World Food Programme
    • LoU was signed between WCD Department and World Food Program to create sustainable models for food fortification and Supplementary Nutrition Programme.
    Celebration Of Poshan Jagriti Maah & Pakhwada
    • State specific Poshan Jagriti Pakhwada and Maah celebrated. More than 2000000 Poshan awareness activities done under Maah and Jagriti campaign
    • Awareness on nutritious food, Annaprashan ceremony of 6-month-old children, growth monitoring drive, Identification and referral of SAM children.
