    The Directorate of Women and Child Development has been functioning w.e.f. 01.04.1992 vide Notification No. 79-SW I/92 dated 10th February, 1992, following its bifurcation from the Social Welfare Department. As the nodal agency for the advancement of women and children in the State, the Department is responsible for formulating policies, plans, and programmes, and for coordinating efforts of both Government and Non-Governmental Organizations working in the field of women and child development.

    The Directorate and its constituent organizations work in close collaboration with social organizations as well as international agencies such as UNICEF, the World Bank, UNFPA, etc., to achieve the objectives of women and child development. The Department implements various schemes and programmes for the overall development of women and children under State and Central Government initiatives, as well as with assistance from international agencies.

    Further, the Directorate is administratively responsible for the Haryana State Commission for Women, Haryana Women Development Corporation, and the Haryana State Social Welfare Advisory Board.
