introduction to Swayamsidha

                                    Swayamsidha scheme was launched in the year 2001 dedicated to Women’s Empowerment.It is a Self Help Groups based programme with emphasis on convergence activities.The objective is to ensure that Self Help Groups members avail the benefit of all schemes and services in an integrated and holistic manner.This scheme is being implemented in 6 Swayamsidha Scheme districts under which 13 blocks have been sanctioned in Haryana State which are Barara and Ambala(R) in Ambala district, Pinjore and Barwala in Panchkula District, Khol, Bawal, Rewari(R), Rewari(U) and Jatusana in Rewari Distt., Hansi-I and Adampur in Hissar Distt., Ateli in Narnaul Distt. And Sadhaura in Yamuna Nagar Distt.Govt. of India had approved the State Action Plan of Haryana for Rs. 220.60 lac, which included Rs. 36.00 lac for State Level/District Level Expenses and Rs. 184.60 lac for 13 Block Specific Projects.The entire amount of Rs. 220.60 lac was released by GOI from 2000-2001 to 2005-2006 for the implementation of the scheme and 100% expenditure has been incurred for the implementation of the scheme at Block/District/State Level upto March, 2007.

1300 SHGs have been formed under the scheme and all the 1300 SHGs are doing saving and have accumulated savings to the tune of Rs. 526.48 lac and all these groups are conducting inter loaning which is to tune of Rs 442.24 lac and all of them have also opened bank accounts out of which, 603 groups have even availed Bank loans.

SHG women of 1279 groups are doing Income Generating Activities such as Food preservation, Dairy Farming, Vermi Compost, Tye and Dye, Cutting and Tailoring, Embroidery, Kichen gardening, Beautician, Dari making, Gur patti making and Petty shops etc.

        
                    State Level workshop on Orientation of Line Departments for convergence under Swayamsidha was held on 9th May,2003 which was later followed by 6 district level workshops in
6 Swayamsidha districts. In addition, 445 village level workshops and 265 theme camps have been held in all the 6 Swayamsidha districts.

       

            The implementers of the scheme i.e. 6 Programme Officers and 13 CDPOs i.e. Project Implementing Authorities (PIAs) of Swayamsidha Distt. have been trained in Legal Literacy and Micro Enterpreneur Development through the NGOs and on Self Help Groups concepts and Income Generation Activities at Chinmaya Rural Primary Health Care and training centre, district Kangara, Himachal  Pradesh during March, 2005. One exposure visit was also conducted for the implementers at National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad during July, 2005. During the 6 years of implementation of the project period the members of all the SHGs have been imparted training such as Self Defence Training, Confidence Building Training, Legal Literacy Training, Accounts Keeping Training and Gender Sensitization Training by the NGOs.

 

Now Swayamsidha Scheme has culminated on 31-3-08, encouraged by teh performance of the scheme, Ministry is actively considering universalization of the Swayamsidha Programme.However, Govt. of India has desired that the State Govt. should hand hold the Self Help Groups formed under the Swayamsidha scheme till the launch the second phase of the programme.
