Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls (SABLA)

The centrally sponsored scheme namely Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls ‘SABLA’ has been formally launched by State Govt. on 22.03.2011 on pilot basis in six districts of Haryana State i.e. Hissar, Ambala, Rohtak, Rewari, Yamuna Nagar and Kaithal. This is a new comprehensive scheme by merging two schemes Nutrition Programme for Adolescent Girls and Kishori Shakti Yojna.


• Enable the Adolescent Girls (AGs) for self development

• Improve their nutrition and health status.

• promote awareness about health, hygiene, nutrition, Adolescent Reproductive and sexual Health (ARSH) and family and child care.

• upgrade their home-based skills and vocational skills

• Provide information/guidance about access to education/learning, existing public services such as PHC, CHC, Post office, Bank, Police Station etc.

The scheme provides an integrated package of services to adolescent girls:

..I) Nutrition provision:- Supplementary nutrition (SN) containing 600 Calories, 18-20 grams of protein and micronutrients1, per day for 300 days in a year.has been provided to 145519 out of school AGs in the age group of 11-15 years attending AWCs and all girls in the age group of 15-18 years in the form of Take Home Ration (THR) during the year 20112-13

.II) Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) supplementation:- 100 adult tablets of IFA to each beneficiary through supervised consumption are to be distributed on Kishori Diwas to 54048 AG’s during the year 2012-13. AGs informed by ANM/AWW on food fortification, dietary Diversification and advantages of supplementation by these tablets, for combating IFA deficiency.

III) Health check-up and Referral services:-General health check up of 71034AGs done in the year 2012-13 on Kishori Diwas., celebrated once in three months.. Height, weight measurement of the AGs done on this day.

IV) Nutrition and Health Education (NHE):- 69193 AGs imparterd NHE on the topics encouraging healthy traditional practices and dispelling harmful myths, healthy cooking and eating habits, use of safe drinking water and sanitation, personal hygiene, including management of menarche, etc. during 2012-13 .

..V) Counseling/Guidance on family welfare, ARSH, child care practices and home management:- Age appropriate knowledge for the two age groups of 11-15 and 15- 18 years with respect to reproductive cycle, HIV/AIDS, contraception, menstrual hygiene, marriage and pregnancy at right age,child care and child feeding practices, exclusive breast feeding, etc. has been imparted to 45639 AG’s during 2012-13 .
