About Poshan Abhiyaan

POSHAN Abhiyaan (Prime Ministerís Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) was launched by Honourable Prime Minister on 8th March 2018. in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan The focus of Abhiyaan is to lay emphasis on nutritional status of adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers and children from 0 to 6 years of age.The first 1000 days of a child are the most critical, which includes the nine months of pregnancy, six months of exclusive breastfeeding and the period from 6 monthsto 2 years to ensure focused interventions on addressing under-nutrition. Besides increasing the birth weight, timely intervention will help reduce both Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR). Abhiyaan focuses on children in the age group of 0-6 years for their overall development. Anemia in young children, adolescent girls and women will also be focussed upon under Abhiyaan.e age group of 0-6 years for their overall development. Objective

The POSHAN Abhiyan will be implemented in all districts in a phased manner over the next 3 years, starting 2017-18. In phase I, two districts, Nuh and Panipat, were selected. In Phase II, the 10 districts which will be covered include Bhiwani, Gurugram, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Palwal, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat and Yamuna Nagar. All the remaining districts will be covered in phase III.ram, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Palwal, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat and Yamuna Nagar. It is essential to raise awareness and organize Community Based Evsents at your level.


Components

1. Convergence: VHSND Day will ensure synergy between various departments and ministries. The Abhiyaan is to ensure convergence of all nutrition related schemes of MWCD on the target population. The Abhiyaan will ensure convergence of various programmes. This will be done by setting achievable targets, sector level meetings with concerned Secretaries, joint meeting of Secretaries of line Ministries under the Chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary, joint guidelines for each level, joint monitoringvisits and decentralized planning.rammes. 2. ICDS-CAS: Software based tracking of nutritional status will be done. AWWs and Supervisors will be provided with mobile phone. Growth monitoring devices (Stadiometer, infantometer, weighing scales (infant) and weighing scale (mother and child)will be provided as well.will be provided as well.

3. Behavioural change: The Abhiyaan will be run as a Jan Andolan where mass involvement of people is desired. A community based event will happen once a month to create awareness and address issues.

4. Incentives: Frontline workers will be given incentives for performance.

5. Training and Capacity Building: Incremental Learning Approach will be adopted to teach 21 thematic modules. The training will be given by Master Trainers to frontline workers.

6. Grievance Redressal: A call centre will be setup for ease of access to solutions to any issues faced.

In Haryana, POSHAN Abhiyaan implementation is picking up pace. Nodal officers have been selected. Recruitment of officials/officers will be done over the next few months. Funds have been approved to perform various activities under Abhiyaan and toprocure instruments. Also, MWCD, GOI in MoU with Tata Trusts is providing human resource support. State Action Plan is being formulated for POSHAN Abhiyaan which have all components of POSHAN Abhiyaan. All DPOs have been asked to formulate strategy for Jan Andolan and come up with District Action Plan. Mewat, one of the aspirational districts,is being focussed upon specifically. Financials:

Under POSHAN Abhiyaan, during the year 2017-18, Government of India issued a grant of Rs. 400.97 Lacs as center share for implementation of POSHAN Abhiyaan. The matching State share for this was Rs. 267.32168.38 Lacs. These funds could not be utilizedzedin the year 2017-18 as opening of head was in process. Now, Government of India has revalidated this amount and a further a grant of Rs. 1425.68 Lacs for the year 2018-19 asGOI and EAP share (80%) has been released. The matching State share will be approximately Rs. 356.42 Lacs (20%). These funds will be utilized for providing mobile phones (to AWWs and Supervisors) and Growth MonitoringDevices to Anganwadis. Also, funds will be utilized for monitoring of ICDS Common Application Software system and for creating awareness through conducting community based events and other activities under POSHAN Abhiyaan.

The budget head for POSHAN Abhiyaan has been opened. Release of funds is in process.
