AWARD
The
central Social Welfare Board instituted an annual award from the year 1998 for
outstanding and innovative work done by a voluntary organization in the field of
women’s development. The award is named after Dr Durgabai Deshmukh, the
founder Chairperson of the Central Social Welfare Board . The Award carries
Cash Prize of Rs. 5,00,000/- and a citation. and a shawl and is awarded
to a voluntary organization every year.
The applications/ nomination are invited from the eligible applicants from the
state through press notes in news papers and through Deputy Commissioners.
The nominations are recommended for
selection by a State Level Screening Committee.

SHAKTI PURASKAR
As a Indian
Women have taken on different roles before and after Independence and excelled
in many fields. The achievements of such women are made all the more precious by
the fact that in most cases success has been achieved in the face of adversity
and difficulties and with the strength of courage, intiative and determination.

women become role models for the future generations of Indian women. such

recognition of achievements of individual women in the field of social
development, the Government of India has instituted six national awards which
are to be called Stree Shakti Puraskar. These awards are in the name of the
following eminent women personalities in the Indian history who are famous for
their personal courage and integrity:-

- Kanngi
- Mata Jijabai
- Rani Gaindenlou Zehang
- Rani lakshmi Bai

STATE/NATIONAL
AWARD TO ANGANWADI WORKERS
The Integrated
Child Development Services(ICDS) scheme is being implemented at the grass root
level by Anganwadi Workers who are honorary women workers.To motivate these
honorary grassroots Anganwadi Workers, under the centrally sponsered ICDS scheme and
to give reorganization for their exemplary voluntary service in the field of
child and development,a scheme of awards had been constituted by GOI in the year
2000 and instructions had been issued to State Governments vide their letter
dated 26-5-2000.
LEVELS OF AWARDS
The Award has two levels, viz at the State
level and at the National level.
STATE LEVEL AWARD
Each Award at the Sate level will carry a cash award of
Rs. 5000/- and a citation to each selected
AWW as per instructions of Govt. of India. State will make selection of awardees
on the basis of performance of Anganwadi Workers, broadly keeping in view the
following:-

Examplary
performance of the AWWs in improving the coverage and quality of services to
children and pregnant & lactating mothers under the ICDS scheme.

Contribution of
the AWWs towards implementation of other programmes/schemes of Central/State
Government/Local Bodies.

For selecting
the worker for Sate Level Award the following policy has been adopted:-
i) On the basis of exemplary work of AWWs,each C.D.P.O. will send three
names alongwith her recommendations to concerned Programme Officer.
ii) On the basis of recommendation received from the C.D.P.O.,each
Programme Officer
should conduct a wriiten examination at their own level at every district.

iii) On the basis of merit two names from each district should be sent to
Directorate
except Bhiwani and Hissar who will send three names from their district.
iv) All the Programme Officer will prepare question paper of subjective
and objective type on the basis of question bank as given to them and they can
add more questions on General Knowledge and current affairs, social evils and
about other new schemes being implemented in the district/State etc.
v) The question paper should be of 100 marks(50 marks for subjective and
50 marks for objective paper).The duration of the exam should not be more than
1.30 hours for both the papers.
vi) Each Programme Officer will be personally held responsible for
maintenance of secrecy of the entire process.
vii) Achievements/Progress of AWW made for recommendation of the names
should be considered upto year ending 31st March(every year) except for
nutritional strategy for which achievements upto June should be considered.
viii) The examination for the selection shoud be conducted upto 20th
April and the merit list alongwith recommendation of P.Os should be sent to the
Directorate upto 4th or 5th May.If 20th April is a holiday then it will be held
on next working day. This procedure will be implemented every year.
ix) Names of AWWs who have already received the State Award should not be
recommended for the next three years.
x) The answer sheets should be destroyed after two years i.e. from the
date of conducting the test.
RECOMMENDATION FOR NATIONAL AWARD
1. An interview will be organized at H.Q. to
select the three names for National Award among the 40 AWWs whose names have
been received from the distt. Programme Officers.
2. A committee under the chairmanship of DWCD will
conduct the interview in the month of October.The names of 3 AWWs selected on
merit are sent to Govt. of India for National Award.
STATUS OF AWARDS IN HARYANA (SINCE 2000 TO 2004)
As per instructions of GOI, every year 40 selected Anganwadi
workers are considered for cash State Awards of Rs. 2500/-.Out of these 40 AWWs
the names of three workers on merit are sent to Govt. of India for National
Award since 2000-01 to 2003-04(every year).
NEW POLICY OF AWARD
As per latest instructions received from the Govt. of India vide thir
letter no.6-3/2003ME dated 20-2-2004 regarding the number of Award fixed for the
State of Haryana, the Sate Awards will be 26 instead of 40.Time scheduled for
the Award is given below:-

LATEST POLICY OF AWARD
As per latest instructions received from GOI vide their letter no.
6-6-2004-ME dated
16-2-05 the amount of State Award has increased from Rs 2500/- to Rs 5000/-.
So far under the scheme Smt. Sudesh AWW from distt. Bhiwani, Smt. Sunita Rani
AWW
from distt. Kurukshetra and Smt. Rajesh AWW from distt. Hissar have been
presented National Award of Rs 25000/- each for the year 2000-01, 2002-03 and
2003-04 respecively where as nomination for the year 2004-05 and 2005-06 have
been recommended to GOI, selection for which is still awaited from them.
Nomination for the year 2006-07 has been finalized at Headquarter level and is
yet to be sent to GOI in January,2008 as per guidelines of GOI.
Regarding State Level Awards 160 AWWs have been awarded a cash prize of Rs.
2500/- and 78 AWWs have been given a cash prize of Rs. 5000/- each as per
revised guidelines of GOI.
